Talking Tunes: Joey Negro and Jay Sean in Town for Our Shortened Weekend
In some cases, it might not quite be the weekend yet, but we'll make like it is a real Friday night and just get on with enjoying our weekend, shall we? Lots going on; new openings, crucial sporting encounters, big discos, a few interesting parties, and the return of a Beijing bar scene "legend". Let's get down to it.
So the rumors are true. Tom Cattanch, aka TC, has returned to the fold. He'll be helping out in some managerial capacity at the Sanlitun version of Paddy's. He's promising to shake up the Tongli Studio spot and wants to get more live music in. If you're in a band, or you know of one looking for somewhere to play contact Tom at newbarbeijing@gmail.com. He also told us about the latest specials they're doing: on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the rest of October, RMB 100 will get you free flow draft lager and house mixers all night. The usual Happy Hour deal remains (half price draft beer and cocktails between 4pm and 8pm daily), and the fabled Paddy's SLT pub quiz will be making it's long-anticipated return this Thursday (Oct 17).
Zach Lewison, formerly of 3sums, Park Side, Union and Kro's Nest, is now a part-owner at the Irish Volunteer in Lido and says that there will be some minor changes in the works (both food and bar). We await further details on that one.
We posted this yesterday letting Beijing know where they can catch the penultimate round of 2014 World Cup Qualifiers around town tonight. It's going to be updated as we learn more.
We'll be providing a bumper breakdown of all the ghoulish Halloween goings-on around town a little bit closer to the day, but clicking here will provide you with every All Hallows related event we know of so far. The big one – YEN Fetish Halloween Party – is back. Here's what we know so far. More to come.
Those busy busy at 京A are at it again. They're launching the Über-Jing Oktoberfest Lager this weekend. They describe it as "a full flavored, toasty Oktoberfest lager brewed in the German Marzen tradition. Vienna and Pilsener malts balance with Hallertau Tradition hops for a true taste of the old world." Sounds splendid. They're also doing it in one liter steins. At 6.5%, it could be a short night out at Big Smoke this weekend. They'll be taking the Über-Jing street side in the Keg Egg on the weekend of October 19.
Do not forget to book next Friday morning off work so you can the most out of celebrating our 12th birthday with us at Spark. It's gonna be great.
One half of LMFAO is going to be performing a DJ set at Elements on November 8. Sky Blu will be on the decks, but no offical word on the cost of entrance yet. Sean Kingston is returning to Beijing, too. He'll be at Mix next Wednesday (Oct 16).
To upcoming highlights:
- 4corners is holding a China Girl Vintage & Indie party tonight (Oct 11).
- New Shunyi venue The Garage has it's grand opening up there tomorrow night (Oct 12).
- UK house cat Joey Negro commandeers Housing the Bar at The Bar at Migas tomorrow night (Oct 12).
- Jay Sean performs at Spark on Sunday night (Oct 13).
- The Brick's Drunken Pub Quiz returns next Tuesday (Oct 15).
Plenty more going on, just click here to find out more.
That should be enough to see that you enjoy your weekend, even if it is a shortened one. Have fun.
