Watch: Kuiba II and China's Top 10 Cartoons
Kuiba II, the latest from China’s anime industry will be in theaters May 31. The first Kuiba (2011) made waves with a story about a goofy nobody who ends up defeating a powerful demon. This time, the characters take to the sea on another wacky adventure. Watch the trailer below.
As China’s hand grips Hollywood’s tighter, the two sides are seeking ways to tap in to each others’ markets. And after failed launches of domestic blockbusters overseas, anime is one film medium China is hoping Western audiences can easily appreciate. The World of Chinese writes:
"Why animation? Between China’s status as the number one creator of animated work and the success of the film industry’s expansion, China’s animation industry has generated a revenue of roughly RMB32 billion. Although the industry is still in its infancy, revenues increased by nearly 25% over the course of one year."
The animation industry in China has a long history and many classics have been produced over the years. We asked Kuiba II’s top animator, Zhang Gang, to give us his top Chinese cartoon picks.
