Capital Bites: Burger Special at 3sums and More Seatings at the New Great Leap

Gourmet mini-burger joint 3sums has opened up the street from Home Plate. The concept is threes. For a set price of RMB 60, you choose three burgers from a spread of 16 varieties. They're also doing trios of cocktails with names like "The Heartbreaker," a particularly delicious blueberry Bloody Mary.

If you're thinking to check out 3sums, consider swinging by this Saturday (11am-5pm) before the Great Wall Festival. They'll be having a "David Guetta Day Drinking Party." Buy one 3sum and get a fourth burger free – plus unlimited Tsingtao. Five or six hours of that should get you properly set for the bus ride out to the Great Wall.

Currently in soft-opening mode, 3sums is open from 11am-midnight (Mon-Sat, closed Sun); kitchen hours are from 11am-2pm, 6-9pm. When we visited, we went whole hog by ordering all 16 mini-burgers. We'll be back with the full report ... after we've finished digesting.

The buzz about the new Great Leap Brewing in Sanlitun has been immense. Reports from their soft-opening this past weekend have been only positive. Take a look at this sneak peek from our Iain Shaw here.

The latest word from GLB is that they'll be hosting a second round of seatings soon: May 11-15. The price (RMB 100) and times (6.30, 7.30, 8.30, and 9.30pm) remain the same, and you'll still get four beers, but this time around, folks will be able to order a la carte from the menu. Seatings are by reservation only; email thh.luke@gmail.com.
