Cui Jian's New Calling? Rock God Releases Own Smartphone
Cui Jian has just released his own brand of smartphone. The Godfather of Chinese rock is hoping to use this tool to interact better with his fans. Tech Node has the story:
"The phone is preloaded with 65 Cui Jian’s songs, 700 minutes long videos and over 100 photos. What’s more, the phone is embedded with an exclusive app named after one of Cui’s song. Cui Jian’s fans thus can interact with each other in the social community in the app, sing Cui Jian’s songs with the karaoke functionality and share their own versions on platforms like Sina Weibo and WeChat."
With the music industry struggling against online streaming services and piracy, rock stars are looking for more creative ways to engage with fans. Last summer, Beck made waves when he released his album in sheet music and had his fans upload their own versions of the songs on Youtube.
Still hot on the heels of his latest album release, The Blue Bones, it is no surprise that Cui is looking for creative ways to make more noise. And this smartphone, shamelessly called Blue Bone after the record, may just be the start.
