Our 10th Annual Reader Restaurant Awards Ceremony Is This Thursday!
Time is ticking until the results of the Beijinger's tenth annual Reader Restaurant Awards are announced this Thursday. Our awards ceremony takes place on March 14, from 2.30pm at the Kerry Hotel, where hundreds of industry figures will be gathered to find out who has won the city's most prestigious reader-decided accolades. Invitations to the event are going out right now: If you were expecting one and have not received it then please contact us. Read on for more on this year's awards or stay tuned to TheBeijinger.com this Thursday to find out who won.
This year, we have split some categories into "fine" and "casual" venues. For over a decade, as we've been here watching the city (and our waistlines) grow, we have noticed that some cuisines have developed more than others, diversifying to appeal to diners of all price points. That's why we feel it's time for both Best Value Casual Dining and Best Value Fine Dining. Why compare apples and oranges? (No reason, unless you're a fruit seller looking for maximum profitability.)
Here are the categories in which you'll see both a Fine and Casual option:
- Personality
- Chef
- Italian
- French
- Restaurant of the Year
- Service
- Steak
- Sichuan
- Outdoor Dining
- Celebration
- Value
Having tested out this split on our panel of nominators, we truly believe that this year's categories do a better job of reflecting the diversity of Beijing's dining scene in 2013.
To this end, we've also added a few new categories this year. Wow, shiny!
- Best "Green" Restaurant
- Impressing Visitors (Chinese)
- Impressing Visitors (Non-Chinese)
- Southeast Asian
- Desserts
- Restaurant Entrepreneur
