Our Generation: Shuangjing's Latest Pizza Joint

It ’s somebody ’s generation, certainly. Whether it’s mine, I’m not so sure. I reckon my generation would have difficulty relating to the schizophrenic woodsman who apparently decorated Shuangjing’s newest pizzeria. The rugged cairn wall, the deer heads, grandfather clock, acoustic guitar and distressed organ on a raised stage area – all of it could have come straight out of a scene from Deliverance.

Luckily, my generation likes Adele, which is all we heard for the 90 minutes we were there.

But my generation does not enjoy waiting 50 minutes for a pizza, this much I know. We were raised on MTV and are not widely known for our patience. Neither is the X Factor generation that follows mine, so given the lack of lumberjacks knocking around Pingod, it’s difficult to see where the brunt of the business will come from.

The “Pyro salad” (RMB 25) came quick enough, but was a little dry and hard to put away with the measly portion of blue cheese provided. A “Pyro Cheesesteak” sub (RMB 25) followed up, which was decidedly light on both cheese and steak, but it was to be the last food we saw for a while. Thirty minutes later came the Hawaiian pizza, which was barely worth the wait at RMB 73 for a large.

The most sincere form of flattery it might be, but apart from the names of some of the dishes, the resemblance to the popular Wudaokou hangout goes no further.
