Capital Bites: Hilton Murder Mystery, Chili Cookoff and Ten-Kuai Pulled Pork

This dining week is packed with news and events, from a "murder mystery" to a pulled pork restaurant awards celebration.

First up, congratulations to all winners at the Beijinger 2012 Reader Restaurant Awards, held last Monday at Hilton Beijing. Cick here and here for the full list of winners.

Winners of the award for Restaurant of the Year (non-Chinese), Home Plate Bar-B-Que, are celebrating their five award wins by throwing a party on Saturday afternoon (Mar 24). The attractions will be RMB 10 pulled pork sandwiches and RMB 10 glasses of Slow Boat Brewery beers. That runs from 2-5.30pm, but I'd say get down early to make sure you get your fill.

Once you're loaded up from Home Plate, head over to Great Leap Brewing at Doujiao Hutong for their Chili Cook-off. Ten cooks will be showcasing their top-secret recipes, and although the deadline for signups has already passed you can go down and taste the offerings, take part in judging the contest, and enjoy Great Leap's new selection of stouts (I believe there's still some left over from St. Patrick's Day) - you'll get one free with your RMB 120 entry.

Brasserie Flo did not open on March 19 as we reported they would. They tell us they're angling for opening on March 26, but we'll confirm nothing until we hear more from the guys at Flo.

Modo has launched a new happy hour featuring eight wines from their Enomatic machines. From 6-8pm every Monday through Thursday, all sizes of pour will be half-price. The cheapest of the tasting pours will be RMB 10 during happy hour, but jump straight to a full glass for some great savings.

We told you last week about Slow Boat beers being on tap in Terra, this week some more details. The two beers available at the moment are the American Pale Ale and Red Ale. In April, the Sanlitun ceviche spot will also be welcoming Slow Boat's Citra IPA, which is said to feature "a unique flavor profile with hints of mango, subtle malt notes, and a small bite of bitterness."

Finally, this Sunday (Mar 25), Hilton Beijing keep up their run of fun events with a Murder Mystery Dinner. That’s being held to raise money for the Migrant Children’s Foundation. Call the hotel for more details and reservations.

Brasserie Flo's new restaurant at 18 Xiaoyun Lu did indeed open on Monday, March 26.

They stress that this week is a gentle easing-in period, but their bakery is already open by the entrance, and they're already serving a business set lunch (RMB 88 two courses, RMB 118 for three).

More to come on this ...
