798 Gets Plastered

Plastered T-shirts, a Beijing-based brand which has carved much of its identity around Nanluogu Xiang, is now expanding its creative reach. If all goes according to plan, their new shop – their second in Beijing – will open tomorrow in 798 Art District, right across from the UCCA.

According to their Weibo and blog, founder Dominic Johnson-Hill and his team have been hard at work prepping the space so that it’s ready before Chinese New Year. Dominic also says to “expect some new designs and artwork especially developed for this store,” as well as exhibitions featuring local artists.

Plastered T-shirts is on its way to establishing quite the empire. This branch joins its original Nanluogu Xiang shop, as well as a store in Shanghai which opened up in 2010. Click here to browse some of their latest designs.

It's weird. Where I'm from, in the South, t-shirt shops opening up signified an area's decline - economically or otherwise - but here it's celebrated. Every prophet in his house!
