Chinese TV: No Shows For You
The government is at it again. Weeks ago the news was about the ban of time-travel in TV shows and movies. Now it’s police, spy, and romance shows that are getting the boot. What will replace this void? Apparently “a wholesome diet of patriotic propaganda that will glorify the party ahead of the anniversary on 1 July.”
This ban will only be temporary, for three months, as the Party prepares to celebrate 90 years on July 1, which means we are now in “propaganda period,” a deputy chief at China's state TV regulator told the BBC.
In place of the banned content, expect to see such winners as “dozens of good TV dramas related to the founding of the party” or “comedy about mothers and their daughters-in-law.”
