Clubhouse: Eddie Steady Go

Over the past year, we’ve often asked local DJs to name the Beijing DJ they rate most highly. The name “Eddie Lv” has come up on more than one occasion, so when we heard about his new weekend parties at Kokomo’s Mo Lounge, we decided to ask Eddie a few questions.

Why did you choose the name “Eddie”?
I am the second child in my family. People around me all call me “erzi,” which begins with an “e.” I am a simple person and wanted a simple name, so I chose “Eddie."

Tell us about your “Eddie’s Weekend” parties at Mo Lounge.
I’ve been DJing for 16 years, and have experienced the whole development of Chinese electronic music. I spend most of my time working on music, and want to share my music with people, my friends, and my DJ friends. I always wanted to find a proper time to play music for them ... to gain natural happiness in a natural atmosphere, and give people a relaxed weekend.

Except for family and friends, who would you most like to spend a weekend with?
I only have beer and music on the weekends, because that’s what I know.

Which local DJ would you least like to spend a weekend with?
Any DJ who doesn’t know how to mix but still calls themselves a DJ. How can I hang out with people with nothing to chat about?

Which McDonald’s menu item is most like your music?
Coca-Cola is quite similar to my music. Coke contains a lot of caffeine to give people energy – just like me when I’m playing music.

If Beijing’s electronic music scene was a meal it would be ...
A Chinese banquet with cuisines from all over China. The best selection of a variety of tastes and styles.

If you were a chef, what would you be cooking?
Actually, I often compare my music to cooking. The music has five tunes, and cooking has five tastes. My music is House, and my cooking is homestyle.

Eddie’s 5-track playlist
JT Donaldson and Tim K – “Voice of Reason (Phil Weeks remix)”
Daniel Steinberg – “Funktastic”
Allen & Luca Marano – “I’ll House U”
Sascha Sonido – “Lima”
Da Sunlounge & Inland Knights – “Little Bit More”

Catch Eddie’s Weekend at Kokomo’s Mo Lounge. Dates for April: Apr 16, Apr 22 and Apr 30.
