New Show of Peace Date Tentative?
Following our breaking of the news that Beijing’s Show of Peace had been postponed last week, the Global Times managed to obtain some additional comment from organizer Rick Garson, published in today’s paper.
The statement issued by the Show of Peace organizers last week said the concert had been rescheduled for October 10, but the Global Times report quotes an official from the China People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries saying that this date is tentative. Organizer Rick Garson, however, reaffirms in the article that the show will take place on that date.
"I really don't understand why people are so disbelieving,” the article quotes Garson as saying. “I'm working closely with the right people."
You really can’t understand why people are dubious Mr Garson? It might have something to do with the less-than-honest announcements regarding "confirmed acts" at the Show of Peace press conference back in January.
Last Saturday, China Daily also appeared to confirm rumors the Beijinger reported the previous day that the show had been moved inside the Bird's Nest due to security concerns. The China Daily article stated: "The concert - originally slated to take place on April 17 in front of the Bird's Nest (Beijing National Stadium) - will be relocated inside the facility to better manage security and crowd control."
See here, here and here for our earlier coverage of the Show of Peace saga.
To be continued.

Re: New Show of Peace Date Tentative?
I think that weekend (Oct 9 and 10) will be the two mandatory make-up work days after the holiday week - but, yeah, I agree, 10/10 is incredibly ill-timed.

10/10. As in... right during Golden Week holiday?
As in the week of National Day? That's usually a fantastic time to try to bring a ton of foreigners into Beijing to celebrate Peace.
