Eccentric & Grand: Finnice Cafe & Bar Opens on Chunxiu Lu
The Romanesque statue greeting your entrance hints at an eccentric, grand interior. Sure enough, Greek columns coexist with paintings of the English countryside, and red leather is paired with chintz cushions.
The menu is easier on the eye, with cocktails at RMB 55 and Chilean and Argentinean wines for RMB 360 per bottle. If you want to economize, there’s always Tsingtao, although it’s hardly cheap at RMB 30.
Teetotal admirers of abstraction can delight in non-alcoholic drinks whose occult names – take “Wizard of Oz” and “Witch’s Love” (RMB 30) – give precious little hint as to what they actually contain.
Finnice is a curiosity; that’s a quality you’ll need to possess in abundance to travel any distance for a drink here.
